What is Peppol?
Peppol, which stands for Pan-European Public Procurement Online, is a digital framework that enables the seamless exchange of electronic business documents between organisations. Originally developed to support cross-border public procurement within the European Union, Peppol has grown into a globally recognised standard for secure and efficient e-document exchange.
Why use the Peppol network?
At its core, Peppol provides a unified approach to digital communication between companies, suppliers, and government bodies. It allows invoices, purchase orders, shipping notices, and other business documents to be sent and received electronically in a structured and standardised format. This eliminates the need for paper-based processes and manual data entry, significantly reducing administrative costs and errors.
One of the key strengths of Peppol lies in its ability to connect different systems and platforms without requiring custom integrations. Organisations can continue using their existing software while benefiting from a network that ensures compatibility and compliance with national and international regulations. This makes Peppol particularly valuable in environments where accuracy, traceability, and speed are essential.
As digital transformation accelerates, Peppol is playing a vital role in modernising procurement and invoicing processes. Governments and private sector organisations around the world are adopting Peppol to streamline operations, improve transparency, and support sustainability goals by reducing reliance on paper.
The growing adoption of Peppol reflects a broader shift toward smarter, more connected business practices. By enabling secure, standardised, and automated document exchange, Peppol helps organisations become more agile, efficient, and future-ready in an increasingly digital economy.

How does the Peppol network work?
Peppol enables organisations to exchange electronic business documents, such as invoices, orders, and shipping notices, through a secure and standardised digital network. Rather than sending documents directly from one system to another, each participant connects to the Peppol network through a certified service provider known as the Access Point.
When a company wants to send a document, it submits it to its Peppol Access Point. The Access Point ensures the document meets Peppol standards and securely routes it to the recipient’s Access Point, which then delivers it to the recipient’s internal system. This process ensures that documents are transmitted in a consistent, reliable, and legally compliant way, regardless of the software used by either party.
August Bridge is a certified Peppol Access Point, which means it is authorised to connect organisations to the Peppol network. By working with August Bridge, businesses can send and receive Peppol-compliant documents without needing to worry about technical integration or compliance requirements. August Bridge handles the complexity of the connection, allowing organisations to focus on their core operations while benefiting from faster, more accurate, and fully digital document exchange.
By using a certified Access Point like August Bridge, organisations can confidently participate in the global Peppol network and take full advantage of digital procurement and invoicing.
